Sanibel Lighthouse Beach review

Sanibel Lighthouse Beach

Sanibel Island Lighthouse

Sanibel Island Lighthouse

Review-The Sanibel Lighthouse beach really showcases all that Sanibel Island has to offer.  It is located at the eastern tip of Sanibel and allows visitors to explore both the bay and the gulf as the beach wraps around the tip of the island.  The Sanibel fishing pier is located here and there almost always are fisherman (and Pelicans) enjoying it. No visit to this beach is complete without viewing the lighthouse itself.  A beacon to the island since 1884 more can be read about the lighthouse at http://sanibellighthouse.com/.  Currents can be a little strong here coming around the islands point so if looking to really enjoy swimming a different beach might be in order.  Pay meter $5.00 an hour or purchase a Sanibel beach parking B permit which then lets you park here without “feeding the meter”.  There are nice covered paths that will take you over to the fishing pier from the beach side too

Parking– 170 spots, 4 handicap, and 2 RV/oversize spots

Other Amenities- Fishing pier, Grills/picnic area, Bathrooms and outdoor showers, Water fountain

INSIDER TIP-Known for its great shelling it is particularly good for the elusive miniature wentletrap shell.  For some reason this area of the island is where most of this shell is found. Also a great spot to look for Dolphin playing in the water
