Fishing Sanibel Island Causeway

Fishing Sanibel Island Causeway

The Sanibel Island Causeway can be some of the best fishing around.  Pick a species and it can be caught here.  With the Gulf of Mexico on one side and San Carlos bay on the other, you get it all.  Sharks, sea trout, snook, and more.  There are even some Goliath grouper  off the causeway.  Bait is usually very abundant here so if you have a cast net it can be productive.  In the summer time small blacktip and bonnet head sharks are all around this area and will readily take a live bait.   Some of the areas have rock structure along the bottom so a popping cork is recommended here.  Really the best bait for all species here is probably a live shrimp(or whatever baitfish you catch in your cast net)  with a split shot weight and popping cork.  It is not very deep in most areas so, depending on tide, setting the cork about 2.5 to 3 feet from the hook should work.
